It’s been way too long since my last post. I’ve posted new images since my last post, but the newest one to announce is “Sunrise Clouds Over Lana’i”. This shot was from one of my last trips to the island of Maui.

Getting up early to shoot sunrise photos, you never know what might happen. You might get mist or rain. Clouds? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Even when you get clouds, weather over West Maui can block light from hitting clouds on Lana’i. But, this time, in this shot, everything came together.

At sunrise from West Maui, looking toward Lāna‘i, the scene is quietly spectacular. The sky begins to glow with soft hues—rosy pinks, gentle oranges, and pale purples that slowly brighten as the sun rises behind you, casting golden light across the ocean.

Lāna‘i, just across the Au‘au Channel, appears as a deep blue silhouette at first, its rugged ridges softened by the early light. As the sun climbs higher, it highlights the contours of the island with a warm amber sheen, giving it a dreamy, almost ethereal appearance. The channel between the islands glistens like liquid glass, often dotted with fishing boats or early paddlers taking advantage of the calm morning sea.

This shot would make a spectacular addition to your home. One of those images that just relaxes you when you look at it. You can almost hear the surf, feel the start of the trade winds, and smell the salt & plumeria in the air!
