Pono Images is proud to present our newest image – “Last Light on Hula Girl – Mala Wharf”.
I’ve been going through some past sunset images from one of my Maui trips. Our newest image was from a trip 3 years ago – copies of which are now for sale from Pono Images – available from Fine Art America as well as here on our site.
The background of this shot is, one night I went for dinner at Maui Mixed Plate, which is at Mala Wharf on the north side of Lahaina, Maui. It’s a spot I’ve been familiar with for over 30 years, as an artist friend of mine used to have a studio here, and I remember visiting him when I was 16 at this spot. There used to be a place next to Maui Mixed Plate called “The Poi Pounder” – and I always enjoyed the view from here.
This specific night, it was right at sunset when I got there, and the light seemed fairly flat. Yet, once the sun dropped behind the last clouds along the horizon, the color exploded into the image you see here.
