This view of the Denver Skyline at sunrise was shot last week from the slopes of Green Mountain, a small mesa that sits against the foothills along the west edge of the Denver Metro Area. This spot is on Alameda Parkway, about 1/2 mile south of Green Mountain High School. There’s a parking lot with access to the Green Mountain Open Space at William Fredrick Hayden Park.
Green Mountain Open Space is a 20.9 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Morrison, CO. – and I’ve hiked it for over 20 years – it’s one of my favorite places to hike around Denver. And, hiking up the east slope of Green Mountain provides a great overview of the entire Denver area. Fall colora in the suburb of Lakewood at the bottom of the image meld nicely with the amber, orange, and yellows in the clouds at sunrise. And, on the horizon, you can see the control tower, terminal, and new Westin hotel at Denver International Airport. The dry air of Colorado provides crisp details for this image.
