It’s been awhile since I last posted, as I’ve been working through a extensive batch of new images from my last Maui-based photography trip. One of the newest sunset images from this trip is now available for purchase at Fine Art America, as well as directly from Pono Images – “West Maui Sunset Glow”.
This past trip had quite a few incredible sunsets to work with. And the night this shot was taken, was not a night that I expected to be that good. I learned a long time ago, though, that it’s not what you start with, it’s how it ends.
What that means is this. Sunset this night was around 7:00pm local time. I got down to the water around 6:00pm. Slightly overcast conditions, a little haze in the air, pretty much flat light. I figured it was going to be a night that once the sun dipped below the horizon, that would be it.
And at the time, I was right. Sun went down, light went flat, and I prepared to pack up for the evening. But, with the ocean≈ in front of me – and a beer beside me, I figured I’d enjoy the water and the last of my beer before going in. About 5 minutes later, the last light during twilight, exploded into the colors you see here.
