Sunbeam Sunset – Hawai’ian Sunset Image by Pono Images

One of the great things about digital photography, versus the film that I shot years ago, is you’re not confined to shooting 24 or 36 exposures, hoping for the best. Instead, you can crank out as many photos as your SD card will hold. Which means for me, there’s always a great shot that I miss doing something with the first time around – that undiscovered shot that on second glance, has a feel that makes it worth doing something with.

Front Street Afternoon by Pono Images - in Maui No Ka Oi'

New Image to be in Maui No Ka Oi’ Magazine – Front Street Afternoon

It’s always nice to be recognized! I got a call last week from Maui No Ka Oi’ Magazine – they’d seen one of my images online of Front Street, which is the main street through Lahaina, Maui. I’ve titled this image “Front Street Afternoon” – it’s a panoramic shot of the seawall along Front Street, looking from the left from about Kim’s, a great restaurant for mai tai’s, dinner, and Hula Pie, to the right, to where Wyland Galleries can be found.

Flagstaff Snow Day by Pono Images

“Flagstaff Snow Day” – New Image from Pono Images

With El Nino weather hitting the West this winter, it’s made for some incredible conditions in the mountains of Arizona – like this Flagstaff Snow Day. What’s amazing about this state is the wide variety of climate conditons. Besides the desert that the state is known for, as well as the Grand Canyon, we also have country’s largest Ponderosa pine forest. And, we have mountains. Around Flagstaff, we have the San Francisco Peaks, including Mt. Humphreys – with an elevation of 12,635 ft. And, we get snow up here.

Snowbowl Powder Day by Pono Images

I just got back from a quick ski trip up to Flagstaff to enjoy a some El Nino fresh powder. I’ve skied Snowbowl a couple of times, and have never experienced Snowbowl Powder conditions that approach this. Prior to my getting up there, the ski area had received nearly 5 feet of fresh powder over the previous week.

Purple Dawn - Superstition Mountains

New Image Available – “Purple Dawn – Superstition Mountains” from Pono Images

Outside Phoenix, on the Apache Trail, is an Arizona State Park at the foot of the Superstition Mountains, called Lost Dutchman State Park. For $15 / night, you can camp – if you have an RV, many of the spots have water & power hookups. The newest image from Pono Images is the view from this place, right before sunrise – a bit of purple colors on the Superstition Mountains at dawn.
